About Pioneer
Pioneer is a multinational corporation focused on producing digital entertainment products. Founded in 1938, the company began when Nozumo Matsumoto first began manufacturing
speakers from his home garage. He went on to build Fukuin Shokai Denki Seisakusho into the audio products manufacturer company, Pioneer. The company has produced and provided consumers with electronics products for home, automobiles, and the business market. Additionally the company was the one who introduced consumer laser discs, car CD players, DVD video players, GPS, navigation for cars, high definition plasma display TVs, organic electroluminescent displays and more. The first ever DVD/LD/CD home player was invented by Pioneer along with the world's first high definition 50-inch plasma display that was designed for consumer use. Pioneer has experienced significant changes throughout the past 15 years, including certain company policy changes, mergers and acquisitions. In March of 1981, the subsidiary Warner-Pioneer established the LaserDisc Corporation, which was eventually changed to Pioneer LDC in 1989. Sometime after Warner -Pioneer dissolved, Pioneer Corporation established the American subsidiary, Pioneer Entertainment. As of March 2010, Pioneer has stopped producing TVs. By September 2014, the company sold its disc-jockey equipment business XDJ-AERO to private equity firm KKR & Co LP for about $550 million.As of this year, Pioneer and Canon have agreed to co-develop a 3D-LiDAR sensor.
