About DLA Land and Maritime
DLA Land and Maritime is the headquarters for the United States Defense Logistics Agency’s Land and Maritime supply chains, and they provide a multitude of customers with various defense systems and items. DLA Land and Maritime was first established in 1918 towards the end of World War I, created in response to a need for improved transportation lines for troops and materials. The supply depot was built at its present Columbus site due to its original positioning that offered connection to three major railroad lines, greatly providing for their transportation capabilities at the time.
In between World War I and II, the DLA Land and Maritime served to provide surplus materials. With their surplus, the DLA Land and Maritime established themselves as the largest military supply installation across the globe. In 1962, the facilities of the DLA Land and Maritime were assigned to the US Army Supply and Maintenance under the DLA, and they currently provide armed forces with over $3 billion of materials each year.
